April NEST Egg: All About Company Benefits

Employee Benefits: Are You Getting the Most Out of Yours?

We all want employee benefits, but how well do we really understand them—and are we making the most of what’s offered?

In this month’s NEST Egg webinar, we’re breaking down the most common types of employee benefits so you can take full advantage of your hard-earned perks.

Retirement Planning: Understanding Your 401(k)

The most common employer-sponsored retirement plan is the 401(k). It gives both employers and employees a flexible way to save and invest for the future.

In this webinar, we’ll explore how 401(k) plans work, how to maximize employer matches (if offered), and what to consider if you’re changing jobs or retiring soon.

Protecting Your Health—and Your Life

Health insurance is a major benefit many companies offer, often at lower group rates. With healthcare costs rising fast, this can be one of the most valuable parts of your compensation package. Depending on your company’s plan, you may also be able to add coverage for your spouse or dependents.

Life insurance is another benefit to look out for. Many employers offer a policy equal to one or two times your salary—sometimes more. But keep in mind: this coverage is tied to your employment. If you leave the company, the coverage ends. That’s why it may be worth exploring a separate policy outside of work.

Company Stock: Build Wealth Carefully

If your employer offers stock benefits, such as Incentive Stock Options (ISO), Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), or Employee Stock Purchase Plans (ESPPs), you may be wondering how to make the most of them. These tools can build wealth—but they also come with tax implications and investment risk.

One major consideration: concentration risk. Holding too much of one stock—especially your own company’s—can be risky if the stock price drops. That’s why planning around diversification and tax strategy is critical.

What You’ll Learn in April’s Webinar

Here’s a preview of some of the questions we’ll tackle:

  • How do I know if my family and I are financially protected?

  • What happens to my 401(k) if I leave my job?

  • Can business owners open their own 401(k)?

  • When should I sell my stock options?

  • Is selling now worth paying the taxes?
