We’re glad you’re here!
From everyone at NEST Financial, we want to welcome Oracle to Austin! Relocating can be difficult, but you’ll all soon find out that there is a lot to love about our great city.
Of course, Austin is still about BBQ, going out on the lake, enjoying a Hill Country hike, and obviously the heat, but we’re much more than just that.
There’s only one word that comes to my mind when I think of Austin, and that is community. In the past 18 years I’ve lived here, I’ve found that the majority of people are willing to help and collaborate with others. All it takes is a call or email, and they’re ready to meet for coffee to see what they can do. Take it from someone who has started multiple businesses here. I’ve had hundreds of coffee meetings over the years.
When you mix this community with our wonderful southern hospitality, I’m certain Austin is more than willing to welcome all of Oracle with open arms.
So besides the community that is willing to lend you hand to help you settle, what else is there that makes Austin so great? We’re pretty famous for quite a few things like live music, events, but my personal favorite is the food! I’m passionate about it all, but food is definitely at the top of my “Austin favorites list.” Before I moved here, going out to eat meant going to some chain restaurant. Since I’ve embraced the Austin “eat local” mentality, I haven’t stepped foot in a chain in years. There is something here for everyone.
You’ve probably heard of our top-notch food trucks. There are a few food truck “parks” where you can taste a variety of different cuisine, which is perfect for trying new things and supporting small businesses. If you see a food truck, be sure to check it out because they’re where most great restaurants get their start! Austin might be famous for its BBQ (I’m sure you’ve heard of Franklins), but there are so many more options to choose from. From Jack Allen’s (try their happy hour menu) to El Meson (a favorite local spot), and Perla’s on South Congress (their fish is the best), there’s a huge variety of restaurants, and this just a super small sampling of all the favorites off the top of my head. Some friends and I have a google list of all the happy hour specials we know. Be sure to ping me when you move, and I’d be happy to add you to it.
Next on the list of my favorite things is summer in the beautiful Texas Hill Country! We love the outdoors here, but the heat can be daunting. I’ll let you in on a little Texas secret. The BEST way to beat the summer heat is with water, and Austin’s got plenty. I love wake surfing which can be done at Lake Travis or Lake Austin, and paddleboarding is big on Lady Bird Lake. There’s nothing like getting to enjoy the water with friends and a cold drink. And you can’t forget one of Austin’s favorites, Barton Springs. You can really feel the Austin vibe there.
The music and entertainment are a huge benefit of living here. There is never a shortage of events and live music to enjoy anywhere in the city. In fact, I’ve even walked into a convenience store and seen a band playing! Please be sure to support our local artists because they’re what makes Austin to great! From our free concerts every other Wednesday in the summer (Blues on the Green) at Zilker Park to Music at the Oasis and Black Fret, you’ll never be bored.
I’m thrilled Oracle chose Austin as its new home, and I’m looking forward to seeing many great things come out of the company. If anyone at Oracle needs any guidance, or just wants to meet a local, I’d be happy to assist and/or meet you for a coffee or cold drink.
As far as business goes, if you need to visit a local financial planning firm our team is willing to help in any way we can.
With gratitude – Dan Dillard
